On the first play of their Week 4 matchup against the New York Jets, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson responded to all the internet reports of his starting quarterback by trotting out both Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent.
Keenum, lined up under center to take the snap and hand it off to running back D'Andre Swift, while Bagent lined up out wide. But it sounds like there might've been another option for that first play called by Johnson that would've been even more shocking than two quarterbacks.
Right guard Jonah Jackson told 104.3 The Score that his head coach actually asked the team if he should bring out both quarterbacks or no quarterbacks at all for that first play against the Jets.
"It was great," Jackson said about the first play of the game.
"He actually came up to me and asked me 'Jonah, what do you think? Two quarterbacks on the field at the same time for the first play, or none at all?' I elected the two quarterbacks. I don't know how much weight that held, but yeah. I wouldn't even say it's petty, I'd say it's scheming up, keep everybody on their toes."
Johnson clearly hears the media, but elects to march to the beat of his own drum, making him even more entertaining than just his play-calling execution. It'll be interesting to see if Johnson has any other tricks up his sleeve throughout the rest of the regular season, but he's clearly not afraid to send a message to the media and his opponents.
