After knocking off the reigning AFC Champions on Thursday Night Football, the Chicago Bears now get to face the reigning Super Bowl champions on Monday, the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle won the Super Bowl largely because of their defense last year and the Dark Side defense is just as good, if not better this season.
The Seahawks are top-10 in nearly every defensive category. Their defense has given up the fewest passing yards, the sixth-fewest passing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns, as well as having the third-most takeaways of any team in the NFL. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams knows his team is in for a fight against this defense, who only surrendered three points in their last game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
“Obviously that’s the best
defense in football right now - stats-wise and players and scheme,” Williams said. “It’s going to be fun for us, it’s going to be a challenge for us. And we accept that challenge.”
But Seattle has an Achilles heel they did not have last year -- their offense. The Seahawks are 0-3 when their offense turns the ball over at least three times and their defense has given up an average of 27.3 points in those games. However, in their four wins when the offense has one or less turnovers, Seattle’s defense gives up an average of 10.75 points.
Therefore, the key for Williams and this offense is for the defense to give them back the ball. Chicago’s defense has not been consistent about getting takeaways, although they do have three games so far this season with three takeaways; the Bears have won all three of those games.
