The Chicago Bears are set for another prime-time matchup on Monday Night Football, heading to Seattle to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks in a pivotal NFC game. One week after defeating the New England Patriots, the Bears have an opportunity to really make a statement to the league, a statement that is going to be needed in the ultra-competitive NFC North.
Chicago will also be ready to unleash the newest addition to their roster, as All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons will play in Seattle just days after the Bears acquired him for a package that was headlined by two first-round picks. Chicago will also see the return of linebacker T.J. Edwards, plenty of reinforcements that will be needed in a game that features high-level
individual matchups.
Here are the key matchups to watch for in Week 8 in what could be a very big telling point for the Bears 2026 season:
Bears DT Jeffery Simmons vs. Seahawks G Quenton Nelson
A matchup between two familiar foes both on their new teams, this matchup could ultimately be the deciding factor in who gets the victory on Monday. Simmons and Nelson were both opponents in the AFC South, and the latter was acquired by the Seahawks earlier this week just before Simmons landed in Chicago. Nelson made a comment following the Bears acquisition of Simmons, that he can't escape the matchup, and so Dennis Allen and the defense should be ready to showcase their new weapon. Simmons should free up plenty of opportunities for Austin Booker and Montez Sweat out on the edge, and while Nelson is familiar with the All-Pro defensive tackle, it's a great opportunity for the Bears newcomer to make an immediate impact.
Bears CB Jaylon Johnson vs. Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba
This has not been the smoothest season for Jaylon Johnson in 2026, and the difficult matchups keep coming as he's set to defend last year's Offensive Player Of the Year in Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The catalyst to the Seahawks offense, Smith-Njigba will command double teams and a group effort by Johnson, Tyrique Stevenson, and Kyler Gordon, especially with rookie Malik Muhammad questionable for the game. Even with Sam Darnold struggling at times, Smith-Njigba finds a way to fill up the stat sheet, and he's the single most important focus for the Bears defense.
Bears WR Luther Burden vs. Seahawks CB Devon Witherspoon
Luther Burden may not be the same type of wide receiver that Smith-Njigba is, but his explosiveness should be more than enough to draw real attention from Seattle's top cornerback, Devon Witherspoon. Burden had an incredible first half against New England in the victory last week, but then didn't do much of anything in the second half. Chicago will likely want to get that right early in this game, and while the offense is very strong at getting everyone involved, they need to get their most explosive receiver out in space as he looks to win his matchup against one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL.
