Not a lot of teams in the NFL have a quarterback room that looks like that of the Chicago Bears. Nor have a lot of teams been pressed into using three quarterbacks through the first four weeks of the 2026 season.
Somehow, though, it's worked, and tight end Colston Loveland has thoughts on how that might be the case. Speaking on the trio of quarterbacks that have appeared this season in Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent, and Case Keenum, Loveland praised head coach Ben Johnson's work in getting everyone prepared.
"I think it says a lot about Coach Johnson for sure, just how he prepares his quarterbacks and his team but also a lot about those guys that are in that room," Loveland said. "I think they have a great relationship with Ben. They kind of know
how to play off of each other, and they know what that relationship looks like and they trust him, we trust him, vice versa. You’re in a good spot when that’s the case."
The Bears came into the season with clearly defined roles for each of their three quarterbacks on the roster. Williams is, of course, the no. 1 followed by Bagent and then Keenum. A no. 1 overall pick, a Division II undrafted free agent, and a journeyman pushing 40 years old. That's a unique setup by any measure, but one that is clearly working for the Bears considering each one has won a start through just four weeks.
As Loveland notes, that says a lot not only about the chemistry of the three but the structure implemented by Ben Johnson. While the offense's upside is far higher with Williams under center, Johnson's ability to gameplan around any of the three has allowed them to remain more than afloat without their star.
That's the kind of scheming that's invaluable heading into the first matchup of the year against the Green Bay Packers.
