Gervon Dexter is saying goodbye to the Chicago Bears and their fans. On Sunday morning, Dexter was traded by the Bears to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and cornerback Clark Phillips III. Earlier this week, Dexter was named as a possible trade candidate heading into the final year of his rookie deal and now will get a fresh start with the Falcons.
Though the trade has not been made official, Dexter knows he's on his way elsewhere and made sure to say thanks to the team that drafted him into the NFL three years ago. "Chicago, thank you for everything," he said in a post on X. "These last three years have meant more to me than I can put into words. Thank you to the Chicago Bears organization for drafting me, believing
in me, and welcoming me and my family with open arms. Chicago will always be a special part of my journey, and I’ll forever appreciate my teammates, coaches, staff, and all of Bears Nation for the love and support."
He then shared his excitement about heading to Atlanta. "With that being said, I’m excited for this next chapter. Atlanta, I’m ready to get to work! Falcons fans, I’m excited to be here and ready to give everything I have to this team and this city. Looking forward to a great year! Forever grateful for where I’ve been. Excited for where I’m going."

Dexter was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Florida. After rotating on the defensive line his rookie year, Dexter became a full-time starter in 2024 and 2025. Over the last two years, he totaled 11 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and 30 QB hits. Dexter was a productive disruptor on pass defense, though he struggled to defend the run. The Bears believe they have enough production currently on the defensive line and were comfortable letting Dexter go to get assets in return.
Dexter took the high road with his message on Sunday, but if he's looking for revenge, he will soon get it. The Falcons are set to meet the Bears in Week 6 this season.
