The Chicago Bears had an impressive 30-24 win over the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football, where they were able to overcome some ugly play and mistakes to improve to 5-2 on the season.
It was a back-and-forth game between the Bears and Patriots on Thursday night, with the quarterbacks on each team, Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, grabbing the headlines. In his performance during the win, Williams became the first Bears quarterback to throw for 300+ yards in consecutive games for the first time since 2018, when Mitch Trubisky achieved the same.
There were a number of good and bad performances in this statement win. Here are the best and worst performers, according to Pro Football Focus:
Best offense grades
- WR Luther Burden III: 89.3
- QB Caleb Williams: 81.6
- RT Darnell Wright: 76.3
- LG Joe Thuney: 76.0
- TE Colston Loveland: 73.5
A lot of the Bears top stars showed up and delivered
in a big way on Thursday, although Luther Burden left room for more to be desired as he had a stellar first half, but was held without a catch in the second half. Colston Loveland will likely take on a much bigger role for the rest of the season with a season-ending injury to Cole Kmet, while Caleb Williams has elevated his play since returning from injury.
Worst offense grades
- WR Zavion Thomas: 30.0
- WR Kalif Raymond: 47.9
- RG Luke Newman: 56.8
- LT Theo Benedet: 58.6
- RG Jonah Jackson: 60.1
Rookie wide receiver Zavion Thomas was penalized multiple times in the win, while Kalif Raymond has lost his early season aura when he was one of the top receivers in the passing game. The offensive linemen on this list are not all that concerning, as Theo Benedet and Luke Newman were on rotation in the game, and Jonah Jackson was coming off a hip injury from this past Sunday, yet he still played through it.
Best defense grades
- DE Jamree Kromah: 76.6
- CB Malik Muhammad: 75.3
- CB Kyler Gordon: 73.0
- DE Daniel Hardy: 70.0
- CB Tyrique Stevenson: 68.2
In the absence of Montez Sweat who just finished serving a two-game suspension, Daniel Hardy has played very well to earn himself more playing time in the immediate future, even when Sweat returns. Kyler Gordon has been on an entirely different level since he returned from injury in Week 6, and it's a great sign to see Malik Muhammad and Tyrique Stevenson on this side of the list for their work in the secondary.
Worst defense grades
- CB Clark Phillips III: 30.3
- LB Devin Bush: 36.0
- CB Jaylon Johnson: 42.5
- DT James Lynch: 43.2
- S Cam Lewis: 49.8
Jaylon Johnson's struggles continue this season, and he had several disappointing plays in the game, as did veteran safety Cam Lewis. Linebacker Devin Bush had his worst performance on the grading scale since joining Chicago this season, but he is still a very key part of Dennis Allen's defense.
