In the Chicago Bears' victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, quarterback Caleb Williams played a very clean and consistent game, totaling 334 yards of total offense with two passing touchdowns and added two rushing touchdowns as well.
Answering the biggest criticism of his game coming into the year, Williams also had a much improved completion percentage, finishing the game at 72%, a highly efficient showing.
Head coach Ben Johnson isn't just looking at the stat sheet when discussing his quarterback's play, explaining how Williams has grown through anticipation and understanding.
"I think for the last year and a half, he continues to play with more anticipation," Johnson said. "He understands what we're trying to get done. Obviously are
visits in game week are very good conversations that we have, he asks good questions. I think he played with a lot of confidence, when you do that you're seeing the field, he's always done that, but the game slows down where he's able to get the right guy faster than he has in the past. Hopefully that growth continues."
The consistent development for Williams is going to be essential for the Bears in the 2026 season, especially if they want to build off the success they had in 2025, when they reached the NFC divisional playoffs. If Williams can continue to hone in on raising his completion percentage, he'll also silence the biggest criticism surrounding his game.
