The Chicago Bears defense is getting a boost this week with the return of defensive end Montez Sweat, who has been reinstated following a top-game suspension due to a violation of the performance enhancing drugs policy.
Sweat missed the Bears' last two games -- both wins -- over the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots, but he'll be back in the lineup for a Week 8 prime-time showdown against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. For the first time since his suspension, Sweat met with reporters on Tuesday to address what happened that led to his two-game suspension.
"It definitely was accidental," Sweat said. "It was a surprise. But you take a lick on the chin and keep moving forward."
Sweat said it was "devastating" to miss the last
two games against the Falcons and Patriots. While he didn't get into specifics about what happened that led to an accidental positive test, he did put the blame on himself for the suspension.
"I take the responsibility full upon myself," Sweat said. "It was nothing with the nutritional staff here or the training staff here. It was things I was doing on my own. Yeah, take that on the chin and move forward."
It's been an underwhelming start to the 2026 season for Sweat, who has totaled just two sacks and 10 pressures in five games, and he hasn't recorded a sack since Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles. But Sweat will be looking to return with a bang against the Seahawks on Monday night.
