Fresh off their first win of the regular season, the Chicago Bears are looking to win their home opener on Sunday when they have a NFC North divisional showdown with the Minnesota Vikings. Chicago will have an opportunity to start 2-0 for the first time since the 2020 season, when Matt Nagy was the head coach, and can really get a jump in the early race in the division standings.
Minnesota is also coming off a big win as they came back to wipe out a deficit against the Green Bay Packers, doing so without starting quarterback Kyler Murray who left the game with a concussion. Veteran Carson Wentz came in to throw three touchdowns in relief of Murray, two of which went to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, part of which came in their 22-point
fourth quarter.
Each week here at Bears Wire we are picking one player from the opposing team who we would steal and put on the Bears. This week it's Vikings edge rusher Andrew van Ginkel:
In the Week 1 win over the Packers, van Ginkel was all over the field for the Vikings defense, totaling 1.5 sacks on the game, along with a forced fumble and fumble recovery, to go along with his three tackles. Since joining the Vikings ahead of the 2024 season, the veteran has been one of the team's most consistent pass rushers and overall playmakers, always finding himself around the football.
The Bears defense left plenty to be desired in their victory over the Panthers last Sunday, and in doing so there's still a need for more pass rushers and cornerbacks to shut down the opposition. Montez Sweat would benefit greatly from having a player with the skillset that van Ginkel has, and it would help solve plenty of issues that have plagued the team over the last few seasons.
