The Chicago Bears were downright embarrassed in a 31-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers, where they were outcoached, outplayed and downright uninspired in a key NFC North showdown at Lambeau Field.
The Bears committed five turnovers, including turnovers on four straight possessions late in the second half, while being held to a single touchdown. The defense allowed Packers quarterback Jordan Love to carve them up with a lack of pressure and injury-riddled secondary. That included allowing six plays of 30-plus yards. This game felt over long before the second half even started.
There's plenty of blame to go around when it comes to this loss, but the biggest falls on head coach Ben Johnson, who easily called the worst game of his two-year coaching
career with the Bears. Outside of his predictable play calling, his most egregious mistake was the decision to stick with quarterback Tyson Bagent until the fourth quarter.
Bagent had a rough showing against the New York Jets, where Chicago was able to ride their top-ranked run game and defense to victory. But when the run game stalled, minus Kyle Monangai, the game was put in Bagent's hands, everything fell apart. Bagent completed 12-of-21 passes for 87 yards and two interceptions before being benched for Case Keenum in the fourth quarter.
The hope is starter Caleb Williams will be able to return next week when they face the Atlanta Falcons on the road. There are still issues to clean up on offense, defense, special teams and the coaching staff before Week 6.
NFL world rips Bears HC Ben Johnson, QB Tyson Bagent vs. Packers
Ben Johnson and the coaches going to need a long look in the mirror after this one... talked a lot of smack all week and this was an overall brutal coaching job. stuck with a clearly worse QB, got way too cute on a handful of occasions and defensive strategy was atrocious
— Jeremy (@JeromeyR0me) October 11, 2026
I LOVE Ben Johnson. He’s won this team a lot of games since taking over as the HC.
— Aaron Leming (@AaronLemingNFL) October 11, 2026
That said, the level of hubris shown today has played a big part in why they are getting their asses beat.
The refusal to swap QBs when it mattered. Repeating the same failed calls over & over.…
Not turning to Case Keenum at any point in this game makes no sense. Ben Johnson is acting so stubborn.
— Elias Schuster (@Schuster_Elias) October 11, 2026
Are you winning with him in? Who knows, but things likely look more competitive. Bagent has looked so uncomfortable all game.
Ben Johnson choosing Tyson Bagent over Case Keenum 2 weeks in a row is mind boggling.
— Die-Hard Chicago (@DieHard_Chicago) October 11, 2026
Especially seeing how BAD Bagent did last week against the Jets.
Very questionable discussion. pic.twitter.com/x7muFfjBb9
I never want to hear about Tyson Bagent again. And I never want to see any smoke about Caleb Williams again.
— Ross Read (@RossRead) October 11, 2026
The Bears are just two different teams when either guy is the QB.
Tyson Bagent has to be DONE. He's blind. He is absolutely blind.
— Ryan (@RyanHeckmanNFL) October 11, 2026
Ok.. That’s now 6 picks in 2 weeks.. I wanna know WTF are they seeing in practice that we NOT seeing on Sundays? I believe Ben Johnson can be a victim of his own arrogance at times and THIS ONE HERE is definitely that time! You seen Bagent didn’t have it BEFORE THE HALF!! Make…
— Nestradaumus (@Nestradaumus1) October 11, 2026
Okay Ben Johnson, we all like and respect you for your intelligence, surely you are smart enough to realize any chance we have at winning this game involves Case Keenum. Does anything else matter rn? Locker room culture, development, idgaf. This is atrocious.
— Ross Pins (@chisportsross) October 11, 2026
Ben Johnson knew this was #Packers week. Not sure anyone else in the Bears locker room did. This looks exactly like the rivalry games you've come to know.
— Ryan Wood (@ByRyanWood) October 11, 2026
Ben Johnson benched Tyson Bagent but he did it way too late
— Dave (@davebftv) October 11, 2026
I know he likes Tyson but should have made the decision early in the first quarter
Once again. Too late. Ben Johnson wanted to “prop up” Tyson Bagent’s career at the expense of the #Bears losing.
— 🗽Sam (@CalebIsHim) October 11, 2026
Just horrible team management by Ben Johnson. https://t.co/BMIax0jkOk
Bears talked a lot of shit. Packers playing an inspired game on both sides.
— Jason Goff (@Jason1Goff) October 11, 2026
This is so embarrassing. #Bears
— Jarrett Payton (@paytonsun) October 11, 2026
Really bad coaching job by Ben Johnson, it was clear early that Bagent didn’t have the answers, and he was too stubborn, threw the game away because of it #Bears
— Bipolar Chicago Fan (@SchroeJoeder) October 11, 2026
Lmaooo. Another deep shot. 50 yards to Matthew Golden.
— Aaron Leming (@AaronLemingNFL) October 11, 2026
Matt LaFleur doing everything he can to embarrass Ben Johnson & I don’t blame him one bit. #Bears
Tyson Bagent cannot play another snap for the #Bears if they are serious about winning.
— Sam Phalen (@Sam_Phalen) October 11, 2026
This is one of the most pathetic QB performances I’ve ever seen.
I don’t ever want to hear again “oh Tyson Bagent had a strong pre season” yes because he was playing against people who are now selling insurance for a living
— DaBearsWorld (@Chi_Bears_News) October 11, 2026
This game is on Ben Johnson.
— 🗽Sam (@CalebIsHim) October 11, 2026
It is his fault for not knowing Bagent is genuinely horrible and not removing him from the game after the 1st quarter.
With the game WELL OUT OF HAND now you wanna bench Bagent mfka?!! Leave him in there! It’s his mess!
— Nestradaumus (@Nestradaumus1) October 11, 2026
No one should question what Caleb means to the Chicago Bears anymore. This is the first blowout Packer win since Caleb has been drafted and it comes during the first game he's ever missed against them.
— 79th & Halas Podcast (@79thAndHalas) October 11, 2026
Without Caleb, the Bears struggled to move the ball more than 6 yards at a…
The best we can hope for now is that this game fuels Caleb Williams to come back even stronger. It was fun to talk up our backups for a couple weeks but back to reality. Caleb’s intangibles make up for weak play calls and OL mistakes, something Bagent and Case cannot.
— Ross Pins (@chisportsross) October 11, 2026
Stop trying to make Tyson Bagent a thing…
— Drunk Ryan Poles (@DrunkRyanPoles) October 11, 2026
He’s not an nfl caliber QB
Good luck ever getting any draft compensation for Tyson Bagent ever lmao can’t believe we ever had hope someone would trade for him
— DaWindyCity Productions (@dwcprodz) October 11, 2026
It is what it is. Don’t really care all that much for this loss. Bagent is clearly really really awful. Just move on to next week and get Caleb back. Being 3-2 and 2-1 in the stretch without him is a huge win imo
— Ilan (@ilannfl18) October 11, 2026
What more does Ben Johnson need to see? His stubbornness to stick with Tyson Bagent and utter refusal to go to Case Keenum is going to cost the Chicago Bears a critical division game today.
— Jack Vita (@JackVitaShow) October 11, 2026
Yeah this is the worst game of the Ben Johnson era. Sim the rest of it
— whitesoxdave (@barstoolWSD) October 11, 2026
Ben Johnson is coaching scared. He doesn't trust Tyson Bagent. Can't say I blame him. But what terrible offensive execution from the #Bears all around.
— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) October 11, 2026
Tyson Bagent does not belong in the NFL.
— 🥈 (@2KEVlN) October 11, 2026
Some of the worst throws I’ve ever seen by a QB the last 2 weeks.
Shame on Ben Johnson for making him QB1 while Caleb is out.
Worst game of the Ben Johnson era
— Eddie (@EddieBarstool) October 11, 2026
Whatever. Bounce back next week.
