Not everyone is good at accepting criticism. However, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is not one of those people.
In fact, one of the things Bears head coach Ben Johnson loves most about Williams is his eagerness to learn from mistakes and criticisms, while also recognizing his improvements.
“I love just where he is mindset-wise right now. No one's more critical of him than himself at this point. As good as he's done taking care of the football and certainly (having) the higher completion percentage and all those things, we come in and there was a lot more to be had last week,” Johnson said. “He's the first one to say it and we go through it and (detail) where can it improve while still highlighting the improvements we've already made
along the way.”
Williams has greatly improved since his rookie year with the Bears. In his first year in 2024, he led the NFL in sacks, although the offensive line play also greatly contributed to that. His touchdowns improved in his first year under Ben Johnson as well as his quarterback rating despite a decline in completion percentage.
In the four games Williams has played so far this year, he is averaging 255 passing yards per game, has completed 71 percent of his passes, has just one interception and the highest quarterback rating in the NFL. Chicago has won all three games this year when Williams has started and finished the game.
The Bears' offense will have their biggest challenge yet against the Seattle Seahawks defense on Monday, who has only allowed an average of 144.4 passing yards per game and 17.9 points per game. However, they have given up over 30 points on two occasions and only have one takeaway in the past two games.
