The Chicago Bears made a statement with a 34-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football, where all three phases came up big on the road to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Monday night's win was a complete effort from all three phases of the football team, from offense, defense, and special teams, with newcomer Jeffery Simmons shining brightest. Simmons played in his first game for the Bears after being acquired last week for two first-round picks, and on offense, there continued to be more signs of growth and maturation from quarterback Caleb Williams. The quarterback showed complete control of the offense and managed one of the toughest stadiums in the NFL, not letting the Seattle faithful knock him off rhythm.
There were a number
of good and bad performances in this statement win. Here are the best and worst performers, according to Pro Football Focus:
Best offense grades
- RG Jonah Jackson: 84.1
- WR Luther Burden III: 80.4
- LG Joe Thuney: 78.9
- WR Rome Odunze: 75.0
- QB Caleb Williams: 74.5
The big standout here is Rome Odunze who seemed to struggle early this season but has found his footing, and did just that in his return to the state of Washington where he played collegiately. Caleb Williams and Luther Burden continue to excel in the offense, while Jonah Jackson and Joe Thuney have been mainstays on the offensive line throughout the season.
Worst offense grades
- WR Jahdae Walker: 53.8
- TE Sam Roush: 55.8
- TE Stephen Carlson: 56.0
- WR Zavion Thomas: 56.7
- RB D'Andre Swift: 57.3
D'Andre Swift may not have had the biggest performance on the stat sheet, but his three touchdowns ultimately carried the offense and led the Bears to victory. The tight ends behind Colston Loveland are both trying to find their footing, with rookie Sam Roush still struggling in his first season.
Best defense grades
- S Cam Lewis: 82.6
- DT Jeffery Simmons: 82.2
- LB T.J. Edwards: 79.3
- DE Montez Sweat: 78.0
- DT James Lynch: 71.4
Jeffery Simmons on here is no surprise as he had one of the biggest standout performances, not only for the Bears but across the NFL this season. In his team debut with Chicago, Simmons made everyone around him elevate their game, which is why Sweat and Lynch are on this list, and T.J. Edwards in his return looked solid throughout the game.
Worst defense grades
- DT Grady Jarrett: 30.0
- CB Kyler Gordon: 31.3
- CB Tyrique Stevenson: 35.9
- DL Shemar Turner: 71.9
- CB Jaylon Johnson: 43.0
The Bears secondary continues to struggle and these numbers are particularly poor as their man focus had to be on Jaxon Smith-Njigba who was held in check for most of the second half after a big first half. Smith-Njigba still had a standout game, but the three top cornerbacks of the Bears have to find a way to get it together, especially with the new-look front seven rising to the occasion.
