The Chicago Bears have been dealt some massive injury blows on defense, including cornerback Kyler Gordon, who's been sidelined since the start of training camp with a calf injury.
Gordon started the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, but he returned to practice back on Sept. 30, indicating that he's close to returning to the lineup during a time when they need him.
Earlier this week, head coach Ben Johnson was asked about Gordon's current status, especially considering he's been a full participant in practice since returning in late September. There was a belief he would return to the lineup last week, but the Bears are taking a cautious approach when it comes to easing Gordon back into the game.
"I think mentally he's pretty
sharp right now," Johnson said. "We're in the middle of this stress test, making sure that he's physically prepared to play in football games."
Gordon has been one of the NFL's best nickel cornerbacks, when healthy, and his impact on this defense is noticeable when he's out there. But Gordon has yet to play an entire season in his now fifth NFL season, which is unacceptable especially after the Bears signed him to a contract extension back in April 2025.
The hope is Gordon will return as soon as possible, especially after Chicago's passing defense was picked apathy by Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers last week. Having Gordon on the field has elevated the defense, and they'll need that this week as they look to right the ship.
