After kicking off training camp last week, Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai missed the past three practices with an apparent injury. On Monday, head coach Ben Johnson provided an injury update.
Monangai is dealing with a soft tissue injury, according to Johnson, but it's not expected to sideline him for a significant period of time.
"We're taking it day-by-day," Johnson said. "It should be no the shorter side."
With Monangai sidelined, it's given veteran running back Salmon Ahmed an opportunity to work with the second team offense. According to Chris Emma, "Ahmed is getting a good audition out of the Bears’ backfield. He’s healthy again and looking to showcase his better form from the past." Greg Braggs noted that Ahmed had "some giddy
up to his step." Ahmed had a long run with the second-team offense, per Brad Biggs.
While there's no doubt that Monangai is RB2 when he returns to the field, this is a good opportunity for some other guys to get looks and make a case for a roster spot.
