Chicago Bears fans have been waiting all week for Monday Night Football, and the highly anticipated matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles is finally here. The Bears are set to host the Eagles at Soldier Field as they look to bounce back from a disappointing division loss last weekend.
In order to get the victory, though, they will need journeyman quarterback Case Keenum to find a spark. Starting quarterback Caleb Williams will miss his first regular season game with a hamstring injury, while backup Tyson Bagent was out for most of the week with concussion symptoms. That leaves Keenum as the most logical option, who is set to make his first start since 2023, according to multiple reports.
Keenum has been in the league for quite some time. He
joined the Houston Texans in 2012 as an undrafted free agent and has played for eight different teams, including the Bears. And at 38 years old, Keenum can make history on Monday for the oldest franchise in the NFL.
If Keenum throws a touchdown against the Eagles, he will become the oldest Bears quarterback to do so. Currently, Dave Krieg holds the record for the oldest Bears quarterback to throw a touchdown at 38 years old and 55 days back in 1996. But while Keenum would become the oldest quarterback to throw a touchdown, he still won't be the oldest player. That record belongs to punter Mike Horan, who completed a shovel pass for 18 yards that resulted in a touchdown back in 1998 on a fake field goal attempt.
Keenum setting the record for the oldest Bears quarterback to throw a touchdown isn't exactly on par with the single-season passing yards or touchdown milestones that have plagued passers for years in this city, but it would still be fun to see. And Keenum can also become the oldest player in team history to throw for 230 yards or more in a game, which Krieg also has. That's something Keenum hasn't done since 2019, when he threw for 332 yards against, ironically, the Bears when he was a member of the (then) Washington Redskins.
All that matters in the end is the Bears getting a win over the Eagles, no matter how it gets done. But seeing Keenum turn back the clock to dice up Philadelphia's defense would be a sight to see.
