The Chicago Bears defense had one of their worst performances of the season against the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay had over 400 total yards, including 358 passing yards. The Packers scored multiple times from chunk plays, including a 42-yard touchdown and a 53-yard touchdown, both from wide receiver Christian Watson.
Bears defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, one of the captains on defense, had two tackles, including a tackle for loss, against Green Bay. Jarrett also has 11 total tackles and two quarterback hits so far this year. As a leader on this team, he took accountability for how the Bears played against the Packers, saying they need to put a better product on the field.
“We need to take our performance last week personally because that’s not
our best version of ourselves," Jarrett said. "We absolutely need to put a better product out there and better effort because we have everything we need to be a top unit in this league, I believe that truly and wholeheartedly. And if we go out there and do what we need to do, we will be.
“But if we don’t and we hope for things to happen and not make them happen, it’s going to be a hard day. We got to go make it happen. We got to play with edge, we got to play with effort and a relentless technique, a relentless desire to have success. And we got to compete just undoubtedly. Like, the compete’s got to jump off the tape at every level. And that [starts] with me, going out there, doing what I need to do as a captain of the defense and setting the tone.”
Before last Sunday's loss, the Bears had only given up 26 points in the past three games combined. They will be looking to return to that kind of play against the Atlanta Falcons this coming Sunday. Chicago’s defense will have a difficult task against Falcons running back Bijan Robinson. However, the Bears have been one of the best run defenses in the NFL as they have given up the ninth-fewest yards and do not have a game this season allowing more than 130 rushing yards.
