Last season, the Chicago Bears captivated the NFL with their miraculous fourth-quarter comebacks, which also helped grow the aura of quarterback Caleb Williams and his star power as the franchise leader.
Williams led the Bears to seven fourth-quarter comebacks last season, including the playoffs, and while the thrill of those comeback victories was amazing, new offensive coordinator Press Taylor believes they built a key trait in his quarterback.
Taylor was asked about quarterbacks who thrive and perform under crunch time, in close games, to which he then credited Williams for not raising his level of anxiety given the circumstances.
"I think it all starts with their preparation," Taylor said. "Those guys come alive in those situations because
they're so prepared. In 2-minute, there's a certain preparation of who you're playing against...I think some of those guys have a great feel for that. Because they're so well prepared, their anxiety level doesn't ride, they're meeting the moment because they're prepared for it. If you look at our record in one-score games or what we did in the fourth quarter, a lot of that was Caleb coming alive and making plays for us. A lot of those two minute drives came alive because of him using his legs for us. There are some guys that thrive in that moment and I think that's something Caleb has displayed early in his career."
The 2025 season was filled with fun and plenty of fourth quarter magic from Williams, leading the Bears to several victories, and him showing the ability to rise to the occasion is a trait that is hard to find. Now it's up to Williams and the Bears coaching staff to take those unique traits of their young quarterback and get the most out of his development.
