There's no injury that's been more frustrating than Chicago Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon's calf injury, which has kept him sidelined for the entirety of training camp so far and left his team down a valuable member of their defense amid injuries.
Gordon, who dealt with soft tissue injuries on multiple occasions last season, remains on the physically unable to perform list with no return in sight. Heck, even left tackle Ozzy Trapilo, who ruptured his patellar tendon back in January, returned to the practice field this week.
When asked if there's any updates on Gordon's return, head coach Ben Johnson was short and to the point amid a series of questions as reporters tried to get some answer, any answer, out of Johnson.
"There's nothing to add right
now," Johnson said, adding he does see Gordon in the building and that he's rehabbing. "There's a plan and he's working toward the plan."
Basically, there's no new update. And while no news is usually good news, that's not the case with Gordon, who continues to miss time due to injury.
Gordon, a former second-round pick, was hampered by soft tissue injuries last season, playing in just three regular-season games with two stints on injured reserve. After playing in two postseason games, the arrow was pointed up for Gordon, who's elevated the defense when he's on the field.
Before training camp kicked off, Johnson shared a simple message to Gordon: "Get healthy." Unfortunately, there's no telling when that will happen.
