It's no secret that Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III is one of the favorites to have a breakout season this year. His performance in training camp has been impressive so far as he moves to potentially take Rome Odunze’s spot as the No. 1 receiver on the team.
Burden had flashes last season of what he is capable of. Against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3, he had a 65-yard touchdown to extend Chicago’s lead in the first quarter. However, arguably his best game of the season came against the San Francisco 49ers. Although the Bears lost that game, Burden had another explosive performance with eight receptions for 138 yards as well as scoring his second career touchdown.
With a year under his belt in head coach Ben Johnson’s system, Burden
is poised to have a strong sophomore campaign and he expects nothing less.
“I expect to have a good, explosive year. I feel like it’s going to be fun to watch,” Burden said. “High explosive plays, making people miss, scoring touchdowns, winning games, having a lot of fun out there with my teammates.”
Chicago has not had a player reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season since 2023 when D.J. Moore had 1,364 yards with Justin Fields at quarterback. With quarterback Caleb Williams’ improvement since Johnson became the head coach and Johnson’s high-powered offenses that have a tendency to put up a lot of points, Burden could easily hit the 1,000-yard mark this season.
