The Chicago Bears are back in the prime-time spotlight this week, having to wait until Monday Night Football to get back on the field when they travel to Seattle to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks.
Fresh off their victory over the New England Patriots, last year’s AFC Champions, on Thursday Night Football last week, Chicago gets another big test under the spotlight. Seattle still boasts a very good defense but has seen their offense take a bit of a hit after losing Kenneth Walker in free agency, although the Seahawks beat Walker and the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday.
Each week here at Bears Wire, we’re picking one player from the opposing team to steal and put on the Bears roster. This week, we’re taking
last year’s Offensive Player of the Year and one of the best receivers in the league, Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
This would be a case of the rich getting richer, with Chicago having plenty of offensive weapons, but none as dynamic as “JSN” who is currently in the race for the wide receiver triple crown, but is second in the league with 58 receptions.
What the Bears have been able to do with Luther Burden, Rome Odunze, and Colston Loveland has been impressive, and head coach Ben Johnson deserves all the credit, but adding Smith-Njigba would take the offense to new heights.
Similar to how Johnson thrived when he was offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions and had Amon-Ra St. Brown, putting Smith-Njigba in Chicago would be beyond intriguing to watch. Not only for the Bears head coach, but for quarterback Caleb Williams, as well. The plays they could make would most certainly be featured on highlight reels across the NFL.
