The Chicago Bears will be without starting quarterback Caleb Williams when they face the Green Bay Packers this Sunday. But it sounds like Williams is getting closer to returning from his hamstring injury.
Williams will miss his third straight game this week, where backup Tyson Bagent will get the start, after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring injury in a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Williams has been dubbed "week-to-week" and the belief is he'll be back sooner than later.
On Friday, head coach Ben Johnson shared an update on Williams' rehab as he's throwing, running and making progress without any setbacks.
"We got him progressively increasing the amount of running that's going on, and of course the throwing aspect of it is a big part of his
position as well," Johnson said. "Our guys have a good plan in place and we're just going step by step with that right now."
The Bears have been able to win in Williams' absence with both Case Keenum and Bagent recording wins against the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets, respectively. It's a testament to Ben Johnson and this offense. But Chicago will be even better off when Williams returns to the starting lineup, which sounds like it could be soon.
