The Chicago Bears are preparing for a prime-time game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, but the biggest question is who will start at quarterback for Chicago amid several injuries.
After starter Caleb Williams suffered a hamstring injury in last Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings, the expectation is that backup Tyson Bagent would get the start in Week 3. But it was revealed on Tuesday that Bagent was in concussion protocol after his short sting in that Week 2 game in place of Williams, putting his availability for Monday night in doubt.
That would mean third-string quarterback Case Keenum would make his first NFL start since 2023 during his time with the Houston Texans. The Bears have carried three quarterbacks on the active
roster since last season, and this is one of the reasons why -- the other being what he's attributed as another coach in that quarterback room.
Johnson said that the Bears have confidence in any of the three quarterbacks to start on Monday Night Football against the Eagles.
While Johnson has never had to start a backup quarterback during his time calling offensive plays -- dating back to his time with the Detroit Lions -- the Bears head coach said it's "business as usual" for the team heading into Week 3.
Johnson added that the team won't add another quarterback this week. Assuming Keenum gets the starting nod against the Eagles, the expectation is undrafted rookie Miller Moss will be elevated from the practice squad to serve as QB2.
