The Chicago Bears made a series of roster moves on Tuesday
after their Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, and it includes a reunion for two former players. The Bears signed long snapper Scott Daly to the active roster while bringing cornerback Nick McCloud back to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, the Bears waived long snapper Beau Gardner from the active roster and offensive lineman Kyle Hergel from the practice squad.The most notable move is bringing back Daly, which was reported by Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune earlier in the day. Daly had been the team's long snapper the last two seasons but was not brought back in 2026. He bounced around various practice squads and most recently was with the New Orleans Saints.
Instead
of re-signing Daly this offseason, the Bears held a long snapper competition between Beau Gardner and Luke Elkin, which was won by Gardner in August. But the undrafted rookie struggled with slow and high snaps during the first couple weeks of the season, one of which resulted in a blocked field goal that would have tied the game against the Vikings in the fourth quarter.
McCloud is also another familiar name that returns to the Bears. The veteran defensive back was a core depth player in 2025, seeing ample playing time due to injuries. He spent some time with the Miami Dolphins during training camp before he was released. With cornerback Tyrique Stevenson banged up and Kyler Gordon still out, the Bears could rely on McCloud to fill in this coming week when they welcome the Philadelphia Eagles to town. McCloud played in 15 games in 2025, totaling 27 tackles and two passes defensed. He also allowed three touchdowns and had allowed an opposing passer rating of 140.7.
