The Chicago Bears are preparing for every possible situation at the quarterback position, most specifically, turning to veteran Case Keenum for their Monday night matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Given the injuries to both Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent, with the latter's status unknown as he is in concussion protocol, the Bears coaching staff has expressed confidence in the 38-year old Keenum if he is to lead the offense.
Offensive coordinator Press Taylor recently discussed how Keenum's long career has given them confidence that he can handle any role he's given.
"He’s been through kind of every role you can be in in a quarterback room," Taylor said. "From undrafted to a franchise guy to a backup to an up-and-down starter. And so I think
all those lessons have really kind of molded him into the quarterback he is today. … Now it’s really cool to see him get a little bit more opportunity here in practice and see how he handles it. If his opportunity comes, I don’t think anybody has any doubt he’ll be ready for the moment."
Keenum has plenty of experience to get the job done on Monday night, if the Bears need him under center, and the experience he has throughout the NFL is priceless. Most teams would almost certainly be written off if needing to turn to their third quarterback on the depth chart, but the Bears coaching staff sounds confident in their veteran.
