All week, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson would not declare who Chicago’s starting quarterback would be against the New York Jets in Week 4. The answer turned out to be Case Keenum, kind of.
Keenum got the first snap of the game, technically crediting him with the start. However, he was taken off the field after the first play and the Bears put Tyson Bagent in for the remainder of the game. After halftime, FOX’s Kristina Pink asked Ben Johnson why put Keenum in for the first snap, Pink said Johnson referred to that as “a ceremonial first pitch” for Keenum after the game he had last week against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Bagent did not have the best first half with an interception in the second quarter that the Jets turned into their first points
of the game. He had an interception earlier in the game, but it was negated by a New York penalty. Nonetheless, Johnson was satisfied with what he saw in the first half but wants to improve in the red zone.
“He likes what he’s seen from Tyson Bagent,” Pink said, speaking of Ben Johnson after halftime. “Said he’s done a great job, even with the [interception]. They’re just looking for more production in the red zone.”
The run game has come alive in the second half behind Kyle Monangai who has over 100 rushing yards for the fourth time in his career and second time this season. This is also his first career game with multiple rushing touchdowns.
