A quarterback with winning habits is essential for any team in the modern NFL. Chicago Bears star Caleb Williams fits that bill right now.
In his second season in head coach Ben Johnson’s offensive scheme, he is still constantly working to improve every little detail. Williams’ dedication to his craft and poise during training camp has not been lost on his teammates. In fact, running back D’Andre Swift dubbed Williams as the most improved player in camp right now.
“Just seeing his poise right now, his process,” Swift said. “I’m here pretty early so I see the little things he’s doing on the daily. Second year in the system. I just like his approach right now, his focus.”
This offense was dangerous last season with the former Heisman-winning quarterback
putting up the most passing yards of any quarterback in Bears history, although he still fell just short of 4,000 passing yards during the regular season. Perhaps this season could be the year he hits that mark.
Last season, the Bears had some struggles with offensive consistency. They had a habit of getting into slumps where they could not move the ball or get anything going. That problem does not seem to have completely gone away yet.
In the second day with pads in training camp, Chicago’s offense was incredibly sluggish, putting up their sloppiest performance of camp so far. They also failed to score in the two-minute drill at the end of practice. There is still a long way to go before the season starts, so Williams and the rest of the offense have time to fix these problems.
