Former Chicago Bears cornerback Terell Smith is signing with the Washington Commanders practice squad, the team announced Tuesday.

Smith was among the first roster cuts for Chicago on Sunday, and he was among the biggest. Smith has been a dependable reserve in the secondary since he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Unfortunately, he suffered a brutal knee injury last preseason that ended his season before it even began and set him back this summer. Even a strong performance in the preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans wasn't enough to warn a roster spot.

In two seasons, Smith appeared in 26 games, with six starts, for the Bears, where he served in a primary reserve role on defense and special teams contributor. He totaled

68 tackles, including four tackles for loss, one interception, 10 pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
