The Chicago Bears offense put on a show in their 59-37 win over the Carolina Panthers in Week 1, which included a dominant rushing attack and standout performance from quarterback Caleb Williams.
The Bears put up 59 points in their season opener against the Panthers, but Williams and the offense want more. In fact, speaking with the media ahead of Chicago’s Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, Williams said the Bears have the potential to score on every drive.
“I think scoring every drive is our mindset,” Williams said. “That’s the potential for us. That’s an internal expectation. That’s an internal feeling just in what we have up front, out wide and in the backfield. It’s an expectation from ourselves to be able to go out there and score
every time and figure out ways to help the defense. I mean, that’s our part to help this team, help special teams and all of that is scoring points, as many as we can.”
Despite putting up 59 points, the Bears actually did not score on all of their drives. In fact, they had four drives that did not result in points excluding the end of the first half. The first drive of the season resulted in a lost fumble. They had a failed fourth down conversion and a punt in the second quarter. Chicago also had to punt on their first drive of the second half.
If the Bears actually managed to score on every drive in their game against the Vikings, they could break the all-time record for the most points in an NFL game. Chicago actually holds that record with 73 points in the NFL Championship in 1940.
