The Chicago Bears made a statement with a 34-17 win over the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football, where a massive audience got to witness quarterback Caleb Williams, defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and company orchestrate an impressive victory.
The Bears offense out-dueled the league's best defense in the Seahawks, with Williams becoming the quarterback to pass for 200 yards (247) while Chicago became the first team to score three rushing touchdowns (all D'Andre Swift) and they scored the most points (34) against the Seahawks this season. Meanwhile, the Bears' defense saw a massive overhaul with the addition of All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, whose presence opened things up for the rest of the defense,
which totaled three sacks and intercepted Sam Darnold in the fourth quarter.
Many analysts noted this game could be an NFC Championship preview featuring two of the NFC's best teams and a slew of intriguing matchups featuring best vs. best. So it's no surprise that ESPN saw a massive return with their broadcast.
The Bears-Seahawks Week 8 game drew 16.4 million viewers, which was the most-watched ESPN-only Monday Night Football game dating back to Nov. 2019, which included a span of 76 games airing on ESPN. Bears-Seahawks is also the third most-watched Week 8 game of the ESPN era (2006-present).
In addition, "Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli" drew 864,000 viewers on ESPN2, which peaked at one million viewers before halftime.
Chicago has been featured on back-to-back prime-time games where they've drawn a massive audience, including Week 7 against the New England Patriots. Now, the Bears will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football in the final of three straight prime-time games before their bye week. And that one's also expected to draw about big audience.
