The Chicago Bears are keeping the New York Jets guessing ahead of their Week 4 matchup at Soldier Field with who will start at quarterback.
With Caleb Williams expected to be sidelined for the next couple of weeks with a hamstring injury, it'll be either Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum getting the starting nod for Sunday's game against the Jets. While Bagent is the obvious presumed starter as QB2, Keenum's impressive showing as starter in Monday night's win over the Philadelphia Eagles has certainly made things difficult on the coaching staff.
After Monday night's win, head coach Ben Johnson declined to name who would be the starter, saying it's something the coaching staff would work through. A couple days later, Johnson still remains mum on the decision,
although it sounds like the Bears have a good idea for who will be under center.
Johnson said "the direction" for who Chicago will start at quarterback has already been determined for the Jets game, but he chose not to reveal it.
"We’ve got three guys and we’ll work through the week and see where we’re at," Johnson said, adding that the team will go with the one “that gives us the best chance to win.”
We could very well get a good idea for who the Bears will start if one of the quarterbacks meets with the media after Wednesday's practice, which the starter always does. And while Johnson isn't disclosing who will get the start, it certainly feels like it'll be Bagent, although Keenum certainly didn't make it easy after his impressive showing in Week 3.
"We'll be in good shape for Sunday," Johnson said.
Johnson provided an update on Williams, who won't be at Wednesday's walkthrough but is "getting better every single day."
