The Chicago Bears recorded their second straight win with a 23-12 victory over the New York Jets in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicated. But they might've suffered a big loss with running back Kyle Monangai exiting the game late in the fourth quarter.
Monangai had a career day with 30 carries for 146 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry, and two touchdowns as part of a dominant rushing attack that totaled 232 yards against one of the NFL's best run defenses.
"He ran hard, really hard," said head coach Ben Johnson. "He found some creases, turned on the gas, and threw a really good stiff arm out there. When you see a guy running like that, as a play caller you just want to keep feeding him. It elevates everybody blocking for him and gives
the whole unit a spark, which we really needed."
Kyle Monangai injury update
Following Sunday's win over the Jets, Ben Johnson announced that Monangai suffered a thumb injury, which is why he exited the game in the fourth quarter. When Monangai left, he was replaced by third-string running back Roschon Johnson, who finished the game. Starter D'Andre Swift, who totaled 58 yards on 13 carries, didn't return to the game after a costly fumble early in the third quarter.
Will Kyle Monangai play in Week 5 vs. Packers?
Right now, it's uncertain the severest of Kyle Monangai's thumb injury is unknown, and it's likely Ben Johnson will know more after further evaluation. The first injury report will be released on Wednesday, which should give us a good idea about his status for next Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.
Who would play in place of Kyle Monangai?
If Monangai can't go against the Packers in Week 5, it would be a duo of D'Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson leading the charge, as well as a running back elevated from the practice squad. Current running backs on the practice squad include preseason standout Salvon Ahmed and Zavier Scott.
