Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores has earned a reputation as one of the best defensive coordinators in the league, one who makes life difficult for all opposing quarterbacks.
Flores is unique in his strategy and blitz scheming against opponents, requiring a high level of of understanding, patience, and confidence for players like Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams who will go up against Flores this weekend.
While he has not thrown any interceptions against the Vikings, Williams has just one lone win against Minnesota in four career matchups. Despite the lack of success, Flores believes the Bears quarterback is a superstar in the NFL, one who is just getting started with his stardom as a true franchise quarterback.
"There's
shifts, there's motions, a lot of eye candy, everything that could potentially give a defense problems, they do," Flores said. "This being Year 2 (with Ben Johnson), they understand exactly what they're trying to get done, what they're trying to accomplish, so there's better execution at least through one game. Great big challenge for us, we're going to have do a really great job across the board. We're going to have to put ourselves in position to handle the run game, the pass game, the quarterback who is a superstar in our league. We talk about the run game, but there's a lot of issues in the pass game as well."
The comments are highly respectful of Williams, and the praise is nice, but the lone focus for the Bears quarterback and the team should be to get their first 2-0 start since the 2020 season, and they can do that with an emphatic win over Flores and the Vikings on Sunday.
