The ability to make significant contributions on special teams is often a determining factor for players on the bubble trying to make a 53-man roster. Wide receiver Kaden Davis is one player who could make the Chicago Bears’ roster because of what he can do on special teams, on top of what he's shown on offense.
Davis has bounced around NFL rosters since 2022 when he was signed to a practice squad for the first time. He has hardly ever gotten action in a regular season football game, but that could change if he makes the Bears’ final roster.
Special teams coordinator Richard Hightower has been impressed with Davis so far in training camp and has a lot of respect for Davis’ grit and determination to make a roster.
“Outstanding talent, man. Kaden
was a great acquisition that the front office made,” Hightower said. “He works his tail off. Really a joy to be around. He’s like a sponge. There’s a kid that’s fought on multiple teams, obviously released or cut from multiple teams, but has fought, time in and time out. I have the utmost ultimate respect for Kaden Davis. It’s kind of like [WR] Kalif Raymond’s story. Kalif had been cut so many different times. And in the special teams you deal with a lot of guys that have had that happen to them. But do they have the perseverance to push through? And I think Kaden does. And I’m happy and excited to see what he’ll bring to the table this week. He’ll get more opportunities.”
Davis' final opportunity against another team before roster cuts will be in Chicago’s final preseason game on Saturday against the Tennessee Titans. And with Davis being a standout throughout training camp and preseason, it certainly sounds like he could make the 53-man roster.
