The Chicago Bears suffered a demoralizing 31-7 loss to the Green Bay Packers, where the team was out-coached and outplayed in the team's worst showing all season. It was their first loss without starting quarterback Caleb Williams, who's missed the last three games with a hamstring injury.
Williams was spotted going through a workout before Sunday's game, and head coach Ben Johnson said earlier in the week that Williams was throwing, running and making progress without any setbacks. On Sunday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that Williams is making a push for a return in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Following Sunday's game -- where Chicago started Tyson Bagent, benched him and then turned to Case Keenum -- Johnson was asked about Williams'
status for next week's game against the Falcons. Johnson didn't give too much away but said that Williams is nearing a return, perhaps next Sunday.
"He's on track," Johnson said. "We'll see where he's at, it may be Atlanta or later….he's close."
The Bears have gone 2-1 since Williams went down with a hamstring injury in a Week 2 loss against the Minnesota Vikings and currently sit at 3-2. If Williams is able to return next week, it would be a huge boost for a Chicago offense that has plenty to clean up after a poor showing against the Packers.
