Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is coming off an impressive sophomore season where he set a franchise single-season passing record, led an NFL record seven fourth-quarter comebacks and led his team to their first playoff win in nearly two decades. But Williams still has a long way to go before he reaches his full potential.
Bears general manager Ryan Poles opened up on what he'd like to see next in Williams' development. Poles made his goal very simple for the franchise quarterback, and that is to continue his development in his second season under head coach Ben Johnson.
“I'll just keep it broad, just to continue to get better," Poles said. "Be a master at his craft. If he does that, we'll be in good shape.”
Williams took a big step in
his first year under Johnson, his second year in the league, but both parties have made it clear that his weakest spot, completion percentage, is going to be a big key of focus. In 2025, Williams took significantly less sacks, but his completion percentage dipped. Yet, he was still able to lead the franchise to an 11-win season, got them their first playoff victory since the 2010 season, and built optimism that as long as the development continues, so should the team success.
Now, the hope is Williams can take another step in his development and help the Bears get another step closer to their goal of winning a Super Bowl.
