Longtime NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson has officially retired and joined the crew at CBS. When asked about the top five game-changing quarterbacks in the NFL, he named Chicago Bears third-year pro Caleb Williams among them.
The other four, not in any particular order, were Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills, Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs, Lamar Jackson with the Baltimore Ravens and Joe Burrow with the Cincinnati Bengals, when healthy. One thing to notice is Williams is the only NFC quarterback to make the list, suggesting he is the top game-changing quarterback in his conference.
When Wilson mentioned Williams on his list, he made the comment that the Heisman-winner reminded him of a younger version of himself.
That is quite the compliment from Wilson, who was a successful quarterback during his prime.
During Wilson’s NFL career, he was named to 10 Pro Bowls, was a second-team All-Pro, a finalist for Offensive Rookie of the Year and a finalist for Offensive Player of the Year three times. In his one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he also received votes for Comeback Player of the Year. He also won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2013.

Wilson and Williams had different starts to their career. Williams was drafted into a team in need of rebuilding and Wilson did not have a losing season until his final year with the Seattle Seahawks in 2021. However, they do have similar skills such as the ability to run the ball when necessary, elite arm strength and ability to lead the team to comeback wins.
Last season, Williams put up an elite performance with six total comebacks, 11 regular season wins and Chicago’s first NFC North title since 2018. He will be looking to continue that success this year, starting with the Bears’ season opener against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 13.
