Injuries continue to plague NFL fantasy football owners. If you had Lamar Jackson in your starting lineup, it probably did not end well since he put up zero points. His injury, along with Tyler Huntley’s injury, has now hurt the fantasy value of wide receiver Zay Flowers until someone can throw to him.
The Arizona Cardinals suffered a litany of offensive injuries in their win against the Dallas Cowboys, with two receivers and two running backs getting hurt. Some teams are just bad, like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who did not have a single completion against the Atlanta Falcons, as well as the Indianapolis Colts, who are selling off the team for draft picks.
Between injuries and players underperforming, it can make it hard to know who to trust and who should
be left on the bench in fantasy football. So, here is a look at the top five waiver wire pickups in fantasy football after Week 8 of the NFL season.
RB Tyler Allgeier, Arizona Cardinals
Rostered in 45.9% of ESPN leagues
This is my favorite waiver wire pickup of the week. Starting running back Jeremiyah Love has an ankle injury again. So even if he plays, he will be limited. Third-string running back Bam Knight is in concussion protocol and most likely will not play in their next game. This means Tyler Allgeier will get the bulk of the carries. He also has a lot of upside in PPR leagues as a pass-catching back.
WR Keenan Allen, Indianapolis Colts
Rostered in 41.6% of ESPN leagues
The Indianapolis Colts may be a burning dumpster fire, but Daniel Jones still finds a way to throw the ball to Keenan Allen, who has essentially emerged as the team’s top receiver. There are only two teams on bye this week - the Tennessee Titans and the Pittsburgh Steelers. But if you find yourself in need of a decent receiver who has a good floor, Allen is worth picking up.
TE Greg Dulcich, Miami Dolphins
Rostered in 1.4% of ESPN leagues
This is a risk, but there is one very good reason to think about picking up Greg Dulcich if you need a tight end option this week. He is playing the Detroit Lions on Sunday, who have given up the most fantasy points to tight ends out of any team in the NFL. Dulcich is also getting a decent amount of targets, so he could have a good week.
RB Jonah Coleman, Denver Broncos
Rostered in 52.3% of ESPN leagues
The Denver Broncos have been struggling with running back issues this season. With RJ Harvey now on injured reserve, Denver was looking for someone to step up and that player was Jonah Coleman. He finished the game against the Kansas City Chiefs with 41 rushing yards, 63 receiving yards on four receptions and a touchdown. Coleman has a good matchup next week against the Carolina Panthers, which makes him a good waiver wire target this week.
WR Treylon Burks, Washington Commanders
Rostered in 6.5% of ESPN leagues
The Washington Commanders have been dealing with devastating injuries all season, including losing star receiver Terry McLaurin for the rest of the season. In their first game without him, Treylon Burks served as Washington’s deep threat with three receptions for 81 yards. Playing in this role, he is probably more of a boom-or-bust player, but he could be worth picking up in fantasy in case he starts getting more targets.
