Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams made history in the team's 59-37 win over the Carolina Panthers with his four-touchdown performance. Now, he has the chance to do it again in Week 2 when they battle the Minnesota Vikings.
Williams is one touchdown away from having 50 passing touchdowns and having only thrown 13 interceptions. According to Chris Emma, that would put Williams in the company of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The only other quarterback to do the same, with fewer picks, was Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Williams has already made history during his time with the Bears. Last season, he broke the record for the least interceptions in a quarterback’s first 1,000 pass attempts. He also broke the franchise
record for passing yards in a season, but was just 58 yards shy of hitting 4,000 passing yards during the regular season.
In the season opener, Williams made history at the first player in NFL history to pass for at least 269 yards and two touchdowns, rush for at least 65 yards and two touchdowns, have at least a 124.1 passer rating, complete at least 72 percent of his passes and not commit a turnover in a single game.
Looking ahead at the rest of the season, he could break even more records. He could become the first quarterback in Bears history to hit 4,000 passing yards in a season. Williams is already ninth in Chicago’s history in career passing yards. But, if he had 4,000 yards this season, that would propel him into third in franchise history behind Jay Cutler and Hall of Famer Sid Luckman.
As far as touchdown passes, he could also move into the top three in franchise history as well. Williams just needs 20 passing touchdowns in the 16 regular season games left this year to move into No. 3 in passing touchdowns in Chicago Bears history; he would also be behind Jay Cutler and Sid Luckman.
In addition, he currently holds the record for the lowest interception percentage in Bears history among quarterbacks to play in at least 10 games. He will be looking to keep that record this season but will have a tough challenge in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings who he has thrown four interceptions against in his career so far.
