Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams recently received advice from Drew Brees in simple matters, to improve his completion percentage. The NFL Hall of Famer told Williams that if he adds three completions each game, he’ll see his completion percentage drastically increase this year.
That specific stat of completion percentage has been one of the biggest talking points that critics have made in Williams’ young career, so getting advice from the legendary Saints quarterback should go a long way.
Ahead of Chicago’s home opener against the Minnesota Vikings, Williams spoke about what that advice from Brees meant to him, especially since he grew up watching Brees when he was a premier NFL quarterback.
"He's a legend, 5,000-yards consistently throughout
his seasons he's had, and his completion percentages were always high," Williams said about Brees. "It moves you, especially when you watched him grow up. He simply said find three more completions, you find three more completions at the end of the year, you'll be a 70% guy. Know where the checkdowns are, having confidence in your guys when they run a great route, coach calls a great play, it's there, it's making it."
In detailing the advice Brees gave him, Williams mentioned the confidence and trust he has to have in both his teammates and coaches, which is a big step in his development. After the first week of the season, Chicago's quarterback made a vast improvement in his completion percentage by taking the smart play in front of him, and if that continues, so should overall team success.
