The Chicago Bears suffered a tough loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, where they were outplayed, outcoached and downright beat themselves. But the hope is quarterback Caleb Williams avoided major injury in what was already a disastrous afternoon.
Williams suffered a right hamstring injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Vikings, where he fell to the ground, after running with the ball in the red zone, and grabbed his right hamstring. Williams was in extreme pain and was helped off the sideline before being carted back to the locker room, where he gave a thumbs up to the Soldier Field crowd.
Initially, there was fear that Williams might've suffered a serious injury given his reaction. But Williams was spotted in the postgame
locker room walking around without crutches or assistance, and there might've been a slight limp.
NBC Sports insider Mike Florio shared an update on the status of Williams after Sunday's game, where he said he was told that "there is optimism that it is not a severe injury." In fact, it could be as slight as a Grade 1 hamstring injury, which would be a one to three week recovery and it would be best-case scenario.
Head coach Ben Johnson said Williams will undergo further testing on Monday, where it'll determine the severity of the injury and his timetable for return. The fact that Williams was spotted walking pretty much without a limp after the game is encouraging. But the real test comes with the MRI.
With Williams sidelined, it'll be backup Tyson Bagent, who finished the game on Sunday, getting the starting nod for Chicago.
