The Chicago Bears, in order to sustain any success that they’ve had in recent years, must continue to draft well. With Ben Johnson mostly in charge, alongside Ryan Poles, they have a good front office filled with executives smart enough to be a winner for a long time.
One of the games that might be worth scouting is Saturday’s match between LSU and Kentucky. This is a battle of two 4-1 SEC schools that would love to make it to the College Football Playoff. LSU is the favorite to come out on top because they have such a deep roster, but both schools will pump players into the NFL.
For the Bears, these four are players who fit a need and could make them a better team upon their arrival:
Princewill Umanmielen, EDGE, LSU
It has become well known that the Bears could use some help
on the edge of their defensive line. Although their pass rush hasn’t been as bad as forecasted so far this season, they will still be looking to address it during the offseason. LSU’s Princewill Umaniielen is someone to keep an eye on in this matchup, as he looks to wreak havoc on Kentucky’s offense.
Jordan Ross, EDGE, LSU
Princewill isn’t the only edge rusher to keep an eye on, either. Jordan Ross will line up opposite him for LSU and make things difficult on Kentucky’s solid offensive line. If these two have a good game, their draft stock rises, and LSU likely wins the football game.
Lance Heard, OT, Kentucky
The Bears have a recent history of good offensive line play now. Ben Johnson’s arrival plays a key role in that, as he has an eye for talent. They have also seen injuries and unexpected retirements create adversity, so it is never a bad idea to stay on the lookout for help. Lance Heard will have his hands full with LSU linemen like the two listed above. A good game for him will go a long way with scouts.
Tavion Gadson, DL, Kentucky
It isn’t just the edge that needs help on the Bears’ defensive line. The interior could also be better at producing a sustainable pass rush. Tavion Gadson of Kentucky is someone to watch out for against the dynamic offense of LSU.
