The Chicago Bears need to open up a roster spot for All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, and it looks like one of their preseason standouts is the casualty. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Bears are releasing defensive end Jamree Kromah to make room for Simmons.
Kromah entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2024 out of James Madison but was waived following roster cuts at the end of the preseason. Following a stint with the New England Patriots, Kromah returned to Chicago in 2025 as a practice squad player. In 2026, however, Kromah impressed enough throughout training camp and the preseason to earn a spot on the active roster. He appeared in two games and notched two tackles, including one for a loss.
The projected
move comes hours after multiple reports of the Bears landing Simmons, along with a 2028 fifth-round pick from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for first-round picks in 2027 and 2028, and a fourth-round pick in 2027. Simmons instantly transforms the Bears' defense and gives them a bona fide star on their defensive line.
