Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams met with the media for the first time since suffering a torn hamstring in a Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, and he didn't hold back when addressing everything from the true nature of his injury to the backlash that he received for his emotional reaction.
When Williams suffered his hamstring injury, he looked to be in intense pain, where he was helped off the field by trainers and later carted to the locker room as he waved to the Bears faithful cheering him on at Soldier Field. The reaction, to say the least, was ridiculous.
While most people could understand the reason behind his reaction -- especially with the full extent unknown at the time -- there were plenty of people who ridiculed Williams
and questioned his toughness. It didn't help that there were initial reports indicating that he wouldn't miss much time, when he in fact went on to miss nearly a month.
Williams doesn't owe anyone an explanation for his emotions, but he explained them regardless while addressing the backlash he faced for getting emotional.
"I care about the team, the organization, winning, being out there, my teammates, all of that," Williams said Thursday. "I care, and that's the biggest thing. This is what I love to do. This puts a smile on my face. It's everything to me. So, not being able to be out there was frustrating. It was more the tears or whatever that was."
Williams is trending toward a return to the field this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. He's been a full participant in practice for two days (including Wednesday's walkthrough) and meeting with the media is also a strong indication. While Williams still has a stress test to pass and setbacks to avoid, if all goes well, the Bears will get back their star QB as they look to get back in the win column.
