After a thrilling win in Week 3, the Chicago Bears turn the page to the final game of a three-game home stand as they welcome the New York Jets to Soldier Field on Sunday.
New York is in their second season under head coach Aaron Glenn with several young playmakers on offense, a defense that is building under their head coach's strengths, and a heavy investment to their future, with several first-round draft picks headed their way next season.
After defeating the Tennessee Titans in Week 1, the Jets have lost two straight games to the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers with both games coming down to the wire. New York will now play their third straight opponent from the NFC North, as the Bears look to build off their momentum from last Monday's
win over the Eagles.
Each week here at Bears Wire, we’re focusing on one player that we would take from the opposition and put on the Bears in an effort to strengthen the current lineup. This week, it is New York’s left tackle Olu Fashanu, who would be a much better solution than the rotating left tackle issue the Bears have right now, as Ozzy Trapilo recovers from injury.
Chicago's left tackle position has been a topic of conversation over the last few seasons, but the end of the 2025 season had given plenty of reason for optimism that they found their long-term answer in Trapilo. That answer was put on hold as Trapilo suffered a ruptured patella tendon in the Wild Card win over the Green Bay Packers last season, and the Bears have started their 2026 season with a rotation of Braxton Jones and Theo Benedet at left tackle as Trapilo recovers.
Fashanu is the former No. 11 overall pick in the 2024 Draft who has struggled with consistency to begin this season, but it would be his place in the lineup next to the guys on Chicago's offensive line that would be worth having. Fashanu would be surrounded with a load of talent around him with the Bears, that as long as he's healthy, the team wouldn't have to rely on rotating at the left tackle spot.
This isn't about Fashanu replacing Trapilo or any other player at left tackle for the long-term, but it's about stability to begin the season while Trapilo works his way back, and insurance if he doesn't return to the form he had late in the 2025 season.
