The NFL trade deadline is just two weeks away, and things are starting to heat up around the league. The Chicago Bears have been mentioned as a team that could be quite active in free agency, and it sounds like they were considering one move that's already been made.
On Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks acquired eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts for a third-round pick in 2027 and fifth-round pick in 2028. But according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Bears were among several other teams that showed "varying levels of interest" in trading for Nelson. The Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles also showed interest.
The Bears are expected to be active in free agency, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, but it is a surprise
to see Chicago mentioned with Nelson given their needs come on defense. With Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson at left and right guard, it wouldn't make sense for the Bears to sell the farm for Nelson, although he would've been a nice piece.
The Colts are also actively shopping defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, which would make more sense for Chicago given their lack of a dominant defensive lineman. But it sounds like the Bears could face competition from the San Francisco 49ers, who could also make a move for a defensive lineman.
