Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles has had his share of hits and misses in his four-year tenure, and there have been some noticeable draft misses, including former third-round tackle Kiran Amegadjie.
The Bears waived Amegadjie as part of roster cuts, and he became the latest failed draft pick for Poles and second this summer -- they traded former second-round defensive tackle Gervon Dexter to the Atlanta Falcons. Amegadjie got off to a tough start in Chicago as he dealt with an injury that carried over into his rookie season, and when he saw the field, it was a disaster. Although it didn't help when he was thrown to the wolves against the Minnesota Vikings in 2024.
Amegadjie had the opportunity to win the starting left tackle job in each
of the last two summers, and he failed to take advantage both years. Poles discussed the decision to part ways with Amegadjie after just two seasons, noting he failed to bring consistency to the table.
"I would go back to the room and the competition," Poles said. "I had a good conversation with him at the end. It really just wasn't a level of consistency that we were looking for."
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Bears attempted to trade Amegadjie before roster cutdown, and they failed to find any suitors. That was evident when Amegadjie cleared the waiver wire before signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on their practice squad.
Now, Chicago appears content to roll with Braxton Jones until last year's second-round pick Ozzy Trapilo is ready to go as he ramps up after a quick recovery from a ruptured patellar tendon suffered back in January's wild-card win over the Green Bay Packers. Perhaps a change of scenery will do Amegadjie good, and he'll get another chance to prove himself.
