The Chicago Bears acquired one of the NFL's best defensive players in Jeffery Simmons just a few days ago, and the All-Pro defensive tackle is gearing up to make his Chicago debut on a national stage on Monday Night Football.
There were questions about whether Simmons will see the field just four days after he was traded to the Bears, but head coach Ben Johnson noted that he will see the field — although probably not extensively in his first action.
“He might not be quite that high Week 1 for us, but he certainly has shown the ability to carry a load,” Johnson said.
Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said the team is getting Simmons up to speed with their defense with the hope he can make an impact on Monday night.
"The more he can digest the more opportunities
there will be for him to be on the field," Allen said. "This will be a work in progress."
Simmons has been on a Defensive Player of the Year trajectory through the first seven weeks of the season, totaling 38 tackles, including seven tackles for loss, four sacks, nine QB hits, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and four pass breakups. We'll see what he can do in his Bears debut against a Seattle offense that has turned the ball over quite a lot at times.
