The Chicago Bears have named their team captains for the 2026 NFL season ahead of their Week 1 opener against the Carolina Panthers.
Head coach Ben Johnson announced five permanent captains for the year, which were voted on by players. Quarterback Caleb Williams and left guard Joe Thuney on offense, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and linebacker T.J. Edwards on defense and kicker Cairo Santos on special teams.
Four of the five are returning captains from a season ago with Edwards replacing departed safety Kevin Byard.
Williams enters his third season as a team captain, while Thuney was named a captain for just the second time in his career, both times with the Bears. Jarrett, meanwhile, has years of experience being a captain during his days with the Atlanta
Falcons and picked up that mantle last year after signing with the Bears.
Edwards and Santos both have prior experience being captains for the Bears, with Edwards having last served in the role in 2024.
