The Chicago Bears are sitting at 5-2 through the first seven games, and they're once again expected to be contenders in the NFC. Which means they're likely exploring the trade market for a player that can help elevate their team down the stretch.
It's no secret that the defensive line has been a point of weakness for this team, despite the fact that they had the fifth-most sacks heading into Week 7, which says more about what defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has been able to do with the players on the roster. But if Chicago wants to add a notable name to their defense to help their talented offense, there's one familiar name that continues to be floated around.
According to NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the Bears are excepted
to show interest in trading for Los Angeles edge rusher Khalil Mack. Although, the Chargers aren't interested in making a trade at this time, despite being 0-6.
There is expected to be interest in Mack from teams such as the Chicago Bears, but the Los Angeles Chargers have given no indication that they are willing to make any trades at this time. The Chargers (0-6) insist they are trying to win games, but that doesn't mean they're not going to get calls on Mack in the coming weeks.
If the Bears were to pull off a trade for Mack, it would be the second time that they traded for the three-time All-Pro. Back in 2018, Chicago made a splash when they traded to Khalil Mack back in Sept. 2018, and he helped elevate their defense in a huge way immediately and for the next couple of years. But amid injuries and a massive salary cap hit, general manager Ryan Poles released him just a couple months on the job.
While the Chargers aren't open to a trade at this time, they might change their mind in the next couple of weeks should their losing streak continue, and the Bears might have an opportunity to replicate history and add a weapon off the edge.
