There are a lot of ways a coach can find out about a blockbuster trade. Getting a FaceTime from your brother is not typically one of them, but that is how Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Press Taylor found out about Chicago’s trade for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons.
Press Taylor’s brother, Zac Taylor, is the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. It is possible Zac Taylor may have been more excited about the trade for Simmons than Press Taylor. Why?
“We play the Titans this week!” Now, Cincinnati’s coaching staff does not have to worry about defending Simmons.
Now, the Seattle Seahawks have to prepare to face Simmons ahead of Monday Night Football against Chicago. Seattle is at their worst when their offense is turning the ball over. In fact,
they have lost all three games where they have turned the ball over at least three times. Conversely, in their four wins, they have a combined three turnovers.
Simmons’ presence on the defensive line should go a long way toward getting pressure on Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, given he currently has the most snaps of any defensive lineman in the NFL. He also has 23 pressures so far this season, the third-most of any defensive lineman in the league.
Shortly before Chicago’s trade for Simmons, the Seahawks traded for guard Quenton Nelson, who was with the Indianapolis Colts. Simmons and Nelson are no strangers after playing each other twice a year in the AFC South. In fact, Simmons has already faced Nelson back in Week 6 when the Titans took on the Colts. In that game, Simmons had his best game of the season with two sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
